Beyond the Boat
Service & Stewardship
BtB in Action
Sailing brings us together and teaches us an appreciation for the waters where we play. Beyond the Boat (BtB) is how we exhibit service to others and stewardship for our environment.
Pontiac Sailing Education Foundation Partnership
Making learning to sail more accessible for youth
PSEF is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization founded by the Pontiac Yacht Club whose purpose is to foster educational programs for training in seamanship, navigation, and related sailing skills. Through PSEF's support, MUDJ Sailing is committed to making sure that financial need is not a limiting factor to a student's participation. Our pledge is to provide sailing school tuition assistance to any family showing financial need.

Inland Seas Education Association (ISEA)
Protecting the Great Lakes through education
The Great Lakes comprise 20% of all the available fresh water needed to sustain life on earth. We believe the future sustainability of the Great Lakes rests in all of our hands which is why MUDJ Sailing partners with ISEA to bring their 70' schooner "Schoolship" to Detroit to provide hands-on, experiential learning activities for people in the community to gain the knowledge needed to understand the commitment necessary for the long-term stewardship of the Great Lakes.
The Catholic Cup
Competing for a cause
In the 2019-2020 school year, Catholic high school teams participating in the Midwest Interscholastic Sailing Association competed to achieve the highest combined Fall and Spring season score to claim the honor of choosing the charity which should receive the collective donation from the participating teams. Besides contributing to a good cause, the Cup provides recognition for student-athletes and fosters connections with the broader Catholic school community.
Summer Off-Season Mini-Camp
Helping students experience the joy of sailing
In June, MUDJ sailing works with the Detroit Yacht Club to host a short, full-day educational program to introduce students to the sport of sailing. The sessions are a light weight, low-cost way to get on the water.
The MUDJ Sailing team is an independent student run group and not an official organization of either Mercy or University of Detroit Jesuit. MUDJ Sailing is open to students currently enrolled and in good standing at Mercy High School or University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy.
